This is the fourth full length opus from the infamous Norwegian black metal band, Gorgoroth.

In my opinion, this album contains some of the more memorable and melodic riffs that guitarist/founder, Infernus has written.
The vocals are executed rather well and this album would also be the last album the feature vocalist Pest and the first to feature vocalist Gaahl (Gaahl performs only one song, the first track which is also the title track).. Drumming duties seemed to revolve on this one with Frost returning for a song.. Vrolok plays drums on three songs... and guitarist Infernus himself behind the kit on tracks 5 and 6.
Songs are very black metal in structure and in atmosphere.. One of the last albums with Infernus being the major songwriter...and, this was also the last studio album that Gorgoroth recorded at Grieghallen (where many classic black metal albums have been recorded).

Thorns-Thorns

The first full-length album from Norwegian black metal project, Thorns.. Thorns was founded by guitarist/songwriter Snorre Ruch, aka Blackthorn

Thorns had a couple demos in the 90's and then went on an extended hiatus after Ruch was convicted and sentenced to 8 years in prison for being involved in the murder of Mayhem guitarist, Euronymous. (Supposedly, Ruch rode in the car with Varg Vikernes on the night he murdered the late guitar player.)

Black and almost thrashy guitar riffing.. The guitar performances are flawless, showing that there is good reason why Euronymous considered Ruch as a live guitarist for Mayhem at one time.. The arrangements are well put together..complete with industrial samples and synths which really add to the atmosphere.. and then there is the super technical drumwork (courtesy of the legendary Hellhammer).. Which you cant say enough about.. The triggered sound of the drums definitely add to the mechanistic sound that Thorns has achieved...The vocals are done very well.. as Aldrahn (of Dodheimsgard) and Satyr (of Satryricon, also the producer here) share vocal duties.. switching off from song to song..

This is a very brutal and dark album.. a must own for any black metal addict, such as myself... This album has been a big influence and inspiration in my guitar playing and songwriting..I can't wait for the next album, which should be out this year or next..

Mayhem-Wolf's Lair Abyss EP

This is Mayhem's second EP and the first studio recordings of the band after the murder of original guitarist, Euronymous. The music is quite a bit different from their masterpiece, "De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas" due to the fact that the then-new guitarist Blasphemer wrote all (or most) of the music on this album (and every album thereafter) .
Everything has gotten more technical, brutal, and faster. Vocalist Maniac had improved by the time he returned to Mayhem for this recording.. not the best vocals, but still better than the clean vocals he would later use on "Grand Declaration of War". The guitars are very saturated, but also very black metal.. And it has been said that Euronymous himself did write a couple of the riffs involved in some of the songs, which seems about right, since you can definitely hear the late guitarist's influence. Although the style used is much more technical and dissonant.. The drums are very technical and triggered sounding, which became sort of a trend for the Hellhammer for awhile.. brutal performance, for sure. The bass guitar is there and adds to the carnage, but doesnt really stand out on any of the tracks..

One of the best releases by the infamous black metal band... An instant addiction..

Darkthrone-Panzerfaust

One of the most influential bands in the genre of black metal, Darkthrone obviously needs no introduction. And what could be said about the band that hasnt already?! Although this is not one the albums that they are known for, such as Transylvanian Hunger or Under A Funeral Moon, this one is even more simplistic and primal than some of their previous work...

Sounding a bit like Mayhem's Deathcrush in the guitars at times, there are some really good songs here. According to the Metal Archives site, Fenriz performed the guitars, bass, drums and not to mention wrote all the music on this album. Nocturno Culto performed the vocals. Not their very best moments, but the blackness cannot be denied.. Hail Darkthrone!

Recorded Febuary-April 1994 in Necrohell

Acheronian Dirge-Ritual of Denial EP

Brutal and dark black metal from the city of Denver, Colorado...
Blackened, down-tuned guitars emphasizing speed, melody and brutality.. precise, intense drumwork..high screeching and also low gutteral vocals with the highs being a bit reminiscent of early Dani Filth or Maniac (formerly of Mayhem)....Black Metal with a touch of brutal death metal at times... and then there is always the acoustic interlude or clean guitar parts which add a nice dynamic...

Acheronian Dirge has just finished the recording of their new LP which will be released anytime now... and they have been playing several live shows.. They will be opening for Finnish Black Metallers, Horna in Denver this fall.. Very good live act.. and our band, Achral Necrosis has opened for them and we have plans for more gigs with Acheronian Dirge.. Check this band out if you have never heard them..

Strid EP

These are the ONLY songs released by one of the original bands to delve into depressive black metal, Strid... Strid was one of the early Norwegian bands that DIDN'T get big (probably cause they had a short catalog due to the untimely suicide of the bassist/vocalist, Storm).... but they were a definite influence musically on some of the more melodic Black Metal that would follow.. especially bands like Dimmu Borgir, Shining, and even my own band, Achral Necrosis...

Droning guitars and keys, lead basslines, blackened vocals..
very atmospheric and a must-have for anyone into black metal.

This is a collection of the "Strid EP"
and "End of Life demo" complilation (released 1994)
